North Kohala, already rich with tradition, now boasts having its own baseball team in Hawaii's multi-generational baseball league, and multi-generational this Kohala Canefire team certainly is. The father-son, uncle-nephew style of this team provides assurance that baseball will continue into the future. That tradition joins the principles of hard work and honest endeavor that have been displayed and handed down by generations of sugar industry workers. It is no wonder that the players' unanimous choice of monniker for the expansion team of 2009 was "Canefire".
Although the maiden season was challenging for the Canefire, they appear to be positioned to advance in 2010. A number of key players from the Angels have donned orange shirts, a result of new friendships fostered during the Maui goodwill tournament that was held in January.
